Small Footprint. Extraordinary Yield.
OneAcre Group is built on the belief that focused strategy, careful cultivation, and disciplined execution can help lean companies produce outsized impact.
Like a well-tended acre, a growing life science company needs every part of the ecosystem working together - the investor story, scientific promise, employee culture, leadership voice, and market reputation all need attention.
My role is to help leaders see the whole field. I build communications systems around what is true about the company, what matters to stakeholders, where the business is going, and what risks need to be managed before they become distractions.
On one acre, nothing can be accidental. Every vine, tree, garden bed, and pathway has to earn its place. When an ecosystem is well tended, a small piece of land can produce far more than its size suggests.
- I think in systems. Communications is the connective tissue between strategy, science, culture, stakeholders, and reputation. Success depends on seeing the big picture - knowing how to sequence and connect workstreams to produce the best results.
- I plan before the harvest. The moments that shape valuation and credibility—data, financing, partnerships, launch, M&A, and public-company readiness—are won or lost long before the announcement goes out.
- I protect what you are building. In volatile markets, clear judgment and early action matter. I help leaders communicate with discipline, confidence, and credibility when the stakes are high.
I founded OneAcre Group with that same belief. Emerging life science companies often operate with lean teams, finite budgets, compressed timelines, and enormous expectations. If well planned and cultivated, a strategic communications plan can yield strong results.

Laurie Hurley MacKenzie
Laurie MacKenzie, the founder and principal of OneAcre Group, is a senior corporate communications executive and strategic advisor to C-suite leaders and cross-functional teams navigating high-stakes inflection points across high-growth biotechnology, healthcare, and consumer sectors. Her perspective comes from both sides of the table: executive leadership roles at top global communications firms and at fast-growing and established healthcare companies. She brings additional business acumen from her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
She has led integrated communications strategies while partnering with C-suite, Human Resources, Marketing, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, and Legal/Regulatory teams. Her experience spans all aspects of external and internal communications and includes navigating the many complexities of highly regulated industries.
Career Highlights
-
Head of Corporate Affairs at Jazz Pharmaceuticals: Expanded the U.S. and European corporate affairs infrastructure during explosive growth, supporting valuation expansion from $3.4B to nearly $10B. Led corporate rebrand and narrative integration, preclinical milestone communications, issues management, M&A and BD announcements, product launches, patient advocacy, and corporate philanthropy.
-
Executive Vice President & Executive Leadership Team Member: Built the corporate communications function from the ground up for a multi-state consumer health company during rapid M&A expansion, company rebranding, and complex issues. Reported directly to the CEO and served on the Executive Leadership Team.
-
Agency & Consultancy Senior Leader: Led client engagements for emerging biotechs and international pharmaceutical companies at top-tier global communications firms, including as a partner in the Healthcare Practice at FleishmanHillard (also at Burson-Marsteller and Edelman) and as the U.S. managing director at a U.K.-based healthcare communications firm. Select clients have included Pfizer, Genentech, AstraZeneca, Seagen, BioMarin, and other pharma, biotech, and medtech companies.
Her clients get a senior operator who can sit with the CEO, understand the science, pressure-test the story, align the internal team, anticipate reputational risk, and turn strategy into language people can actually use.
Outside of her work, you can find Laurie on her one-acre property in Napa Valley—tending her vineyard, fruit orchard, and expansive vegetable and flower gardens—or far from home exploring new cultures on her next travel adventure.
How I Work
I work as an embedded senior advisor or a fractional extension of the leadership team. I stay close to the realities of the business, bring senior-level judgment, challenge assumptions, and help leaders and teams move quickly.
Every engagement starts with listening—to the science, strategy, leadership team, culture, key stakeholders, and market. From there, I build the communications architecture, in partnership with you, around what the company actually needs.

Let’s Talk About What’s Next
If your company is preparing for a corporate milestone, a partnership announcement, an M&A transaction, an organizational change, or a stronger communications foundation, I would welcome a conversation.
The best engagements start with a candid discussion about where your company is today, where we want to go, and what may be standing in the way.
